YOUTUBE incorporates the option of Creative Commons intellectual property

June, 2011

The intellectual property of the material hung in the network is the main headache of the sites, living from their unloadings.  Youtube, which every minute adds 48 hours of video, just added among its editing options the Creative Commons (CC) button, a more flexible copyrights system compared with the classic copyright.

Until now, any video hung in YouTube had to greet the license of the own videos network, highly restrictive, assuming that the material was free of other rights. Since today, YouTube incorporates the option of Creative Commons that, although having six types of licenses, the video portal to avoid complications, has reduced it to a single one: the obligation of displaying the author’s link and the express authorization of use of the material with commercial ends.

From now on, the editor of a video hung in YouTube might have images under CC license and might create its own material.  Youtube has offered to the C-SPAN and Al Jazeeraa networks a video library with 10.000 files, but the expectation if that the number multiplies in just a short time, given the almost viral reproduction of this videos network.

The responsibility of the original video will only appear if the Internet user activates the button "more". To stimulate this action, YouTube is considering the possibility of giving better location to the videos that more times have shown the link of the author.

The license Creative Commons was born in the digital era (2001 in California (USA), and the basic difference from the copyright is that while the latest shows “all rights reserved", the CC reserve "some rights"; those that are expressly market by the author according with its destination or its use, being more flexible with education and beneficial sectors.

For years, Flickr, the photographies site of Yahoo!, incorporates the CC option, where the rights of reproduction of each photo are specified, according to the desires of the author, even with links for prices of reproduction.
